Labors of Love

An Update on our Winter Projects

At the beginning of each year, we at Cape Resorts dedicate time to the restoration of our historic properties. The authentic charm of our seaside collection presents an important responsibility—one anchored in honoring these special places and preserving them for the future. Below, we explore the seasonal improvements we've made in Cape May and Sag Harbor, all in an effort to welcome you for years to come.

Restoring an Icon

320 gallons of blue paint used. 40 bathtubs reglazed. 132 red chairs painted in the Blue Pig Tavern. These numbers make up a wonderful whole: the two month-long winter restoration of Congress Hall, America's First Seaside Resort. Our beloved Big House by the Sea is now in its second century, and preserving this grande dame is no easy task—but the effort is well worth the reward.

Completed Projects Include:

  • Re-painting each Guest Room
  • Re-painting each Hallway
  • Reglazing Guest Room Bathtubs (40 bathtubs in total)
  • Reglazing Guest Room Bathroom Sinks (38 sinks in total)
  • HVAC replacements (14 total)
  • Grouting (60 lbs used in total)
  • Duct Work (480 feet in total)
  • Spackling (40 gallons used in total)
  • Re-plastering both Pools
  • Re-painting the Ballroom
  • Re-finishing the Ballroom Floors
  • Re-finishing the Brown Room Floors
  • Re-painting the red Blue Pig Tavern chairs (132 chairs in total)

In addition, it is of note that this summer marks 20 years since Congress Hall's 2002 reopening. And—trust us—we have a summer of celebrations planned that you won't want to miss.
