The Season of Reflection

January at Beach Plum Farm

Winter on the Cape isn’t empty. It’s honest. The crowds are gone, the air is sharp, and the quiet settles over the farm like a blanket of fresh snow. The fields rest, the cottages glow, and the days move at their own rhythm. Beyond the farm's gates, Cape May transforms. The beaches are clear, the sunsets linger, and the town takes on an almost cinematic stillness. It’s the Cape May few people see: winter light over the dunes, eagles gliding across the bay, and trails at South Cape May Meadows and Garrett Family Preserve waiting for quiet walkers and birders alike.

Life on the farm never truly stops. It just changes tempo.

The agriculture team tends the hoop houses, checking the seedlings that will fill our gardens by spring. The kitchen team plans the next round of seasonal menus, pulling inspiration from what’s quietly thriving in the soil.

A Person Holding A Plant
In our greenhouses, the harvest of root vegetables—like radishes and carrots—continues well into winter

You’ll find trays of seed starts under lights, rows of greens sleeping under frost cloth, and the hum of quiet work that keeps this place alive all winter long. It’s not a time of rest so much as a time of becoming. This is the Cape at its most peaceful—still, soulful, and real.

At Beach Plum Farm, we call it the Season of Reflection.

Add color to your winter with our Orchid Care package, offered in partnership with Waldor Orchids.
A Close Up Of A Flower

Discover the art and science of orchid care in an experience that goes far beyond a simple class. Whether you’re just orchid-curious or already tending a collection, our Orchid Care package offers an immersive journey into the beauty and resilience of these extraordinary plants.

Led by Beth Davis of Waldor Orchids, one of the East Coast’s most respected orchid experts, you’ll step inside the glass canopy of Beach Plum Farm’s Hoop House—a sanctuary where every breath feels restorative. Here, humidity and airflow harmonize to nurture orchids, and you’ll learn how to create that same balance at home.

Firelight, long tables, and honest food at our beloved farm-to-table dinners, where each dish tells a story of the season.
A Large Dining Room With Tables Set For A Meal

The first dinners of the new year take place under the Wolf Moon on the weekend of January 3rd. Guests are invited to gather around long tables in the greenhouse for an evening of firelight and honest food. Each menu reflects the winter landscape—roots pulled from the soil hours before service, greens from our hoop houses, and pork from the herd raised just beyond the fields.

February brings Valentine’s Dinners at the farm, intimate candlelit evenings inspired by Cape May’s winter bounty and designed for shared celebration. Cottages are available for guests looking to extend the experience into a weekend stay, with mornings that begin slowly and end beside the same fire that warmed dinner the night before.

The Market at Beach Plum Farm remains open on weekends, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 2 PM.
A Grocery Store With Food

Here, everything begins just steps from the barn. Our regenerative farming practices guide how we grow, raise, and care for the land, building healthier soil, stronger crops, and better food for the table. The pork and chicken in our coolers come from animals raised on pasture, rotated through the fields to nourish the very soil that feeds them. Fresh eggs gathered each morning and seasonal produce from our gardens reflect that same rhythm of care—honest food, grown the way nature intended.

The Market is open for those looking to shop the farm, to pick up groceries for the weekend, gather ingredients for a meal, browse simple housewares, or find a thoughtful gift to take home. It’s a space to slow down, connect, and carry a piece of the farm’s rhythm with you.

Come for a walk through the gardens, stay for a chat by the fire pit, and leave with something truly rooted in this place.
