The Magic of August

At Beach Plum Farm

August at the Farm is nothing short of magical. It's where beach mornings, golden evenings, and the harvest come together.

There may not be a better time of year to experience Beach Plum Farm than August. The fields are overflowing with tomatoes, peppers, herbs, flowers, and the last great harvests of summer. Every morning begins with another trip to the fields and greenhouses, another crate filled, and another chalkboard menu inspired by whatever the farm has to offer that day. It's a month that reminds us why we farm in the first place.

A cottage stay like no other.

The Atlantic has finally reached its warmest temperatures of the year, making August the perfect time to hop in your cottage golf cart and head to the beach for the morning. Spend a few hours in the surf, then make your way back to the farm for an afternoon by the Orchard Pool. As the day begins to cool, pour yourself a glass of wine, settle in around the fire pits, and let the pace of the day slow down.

August also marks the beginning of one of Cape May's most remarkable natural seasons. Goldenrod starts to blanket the fields and meadows in shades of gold, welcoming the first monarch butterflies as they begin stopping in Cape May on their incredible migration south. It's a quiet reminder that while summer is still in full swing, the seasons are beginning to change.

Take time to explore everything Cape May has to offer. Wander the trails at Cape May Point, climb the Cape May Lighthouse, spend an afternoon by the ocean, or simply drive the back roads. Every turn reveals another beautiful corner of West Cape May, and August is the perfect time to experience it all.

Then comes my favorite time of day—the golden hour.

As daylight fades into evening, the farm comes alive in a different way. August is harvest season, and there's no better place to celebrate it than around our table. Our Harvest Dinners showcase the very best of what the fields, gardens, , and local waters have to offer, with each menu inspired by what is being harvested that very day.

For a more intimate experience, Tables in the Garden invites you to dine among the raised beds where much of your meal began. Surrounded by flowers, vegetables, and the sounds of the farm settling in for the evening, it's the perfect setting to gather with friends, share a bottle of wine, and celebrate the abundance of summer. As the stars begin to appear overhead and laughter fills the garden, you're reminded that the best meals aren't just about what's on the plate—they're about the people around the table and the harvest that brought everyone together.
