Cocktails With The Presidents
Congress Hall
Available February 9 through April 30, 2024
Imbibe like a head of state and enjoy historically-inspired cocktails in the Brown Room, as well as a copy of Mint Juleps with Teddy Roosevelt: A Complete History of Presidential Drinking by Mark Will-Weber.
read moreFor over 200 years, Congress Hall has hosted esteemed guests—including four sitting United States Presidents. Naturally, these Heads of State each had favorite parts of their stay: Franklin Piece, in a 1855 visit, appreciated Congress Hall's festive Fourth of July Celebration; James Buchanan, in a 1867 visit, had a penchant for the sea air; Ulysses S. Grant, in a 1875 visit, appreciated Cape May's privacy; and Benjamin Harrison, in 1891, was so taken with Congress Hall that he set up his executive offices on the ground floor—where the Sea Spa is now—and established the hotel as his official Summer White House.
Indeed, these Presidential favorites demonstrate Congress Hall's timeless appeal—but, at the risk of editorializing, we'll posit that these gentlemen would have also appreciated a good drink in the current-day Brown Room. After all, who doesn't?
In the spirit of celebrating our history, we invite you to imbibe like a Head of State with our Cocktails with the Presidents package, featuring a themed menu of Brown Room cocktail selections sure to please any Commander in Chief.

Spring Migration with Richard Crossley
THE BEACH PLUM FARM COTTAGES, THE VIRGINIA HOTEL
Available Monday, May 20 through Thursday, May 23, 2024
Join renowned author, photographer, and birder Richard Crossley on a spring Cape May birding retreat, focusing on the season's red knot migration on the shores of the Delaware Bay.
read moreRed knots arrive to Cape May in early May, famished and half their departure weight after their long journey northward. Their arrival coincides with the annual horseshoe crab spawning in the Delaware Bay. During May and June of each year thousands of horseshoe crabs emerge from the depths of the Bay to spawn along the shoreline—an incredible natural phenomenon. Red knots, relying on masses of tiny, green horseshoe crab eggs on the beach, descend on the banks of the Delaware Bay and gorge themselves for about one month in preparation for the final leg of their journey to their Arctic breeding grounds.
Richard Crossley is an internationally acclaimed birder, photographer and award winning author of ‘The Crossley ID Guide’ series. Crazy, wildly passionate, driven and single-minded are just a few of the words used to describe his love of birding and the outdoors.

THE VIRGINIA HOTEL, BEACH PLUM FARM COTTAGES
Available for Stays this June, September, and October
Experience the world of oyster farming firsthand with a deluxe getaway in Cape May that pairs hard work with with fine tastes.
read more“It’s a gritty, dirty, muddy job, and perhaps you have to be just a little bit crazy to do it. But there’s also a romance to this work," says Lisa Calvo, owner of Sweet Amalia Oyster Farm.
For three decades, most recently with Rutgers University, Lisa studied shellfish pathology, helping to develop oysters resistant to disease. As a side hustle, she launched Sweet Amalia, which was named for her daughter, who, as a toddler, would slurp oysters straight off the reef. The project began as a learning laboratory for studying aquaculture so that Calvo might better assist other farmers, but, a couple of years ago, it became her full-time occupation. Now, on a six-acre, intertidal plot located off of Route 47, Calvo and her team harvest approximately 3,000 oysters per season.
Experience the world of oyster farming firsthand with a deluxe getaway in Cape May that pairs hard work with with fine tastes. On the storied banks of the Delaware Bay, you'll receive a shucking lesson and an oyster tasting led by Sweet Amalia's experienced oyster farmers. And, to round out your stay in Cape May, you'll enjoy a world-class dinner in the Ebbitt Room that incorporates tide-to-table oyster recipes from Chef Jason Hanin.
