In Search of Cape May Diamonds (Tuesdays at 1:00 pm)
Learn about the mysteries that lie within the sand at Sunset Beach. Join us as we search for Cape May Diamonds. Cape May Diamonds are quartz stones that wash up on the beaches of the Delaware Bay. When polished they look just like real diamonds! The first Native Americans who lived in Cape May believed they had supernatural powers. Our staff will be on hand to help you gather and identify this precious local gem.
Hike to Davey’s Lake (Wednesday at 1:00 pm)
Tucked away in the marshes along the shore of the Delaware Bay are some of the most fascinating, fertile and diverse ecosystems in the world. It’s a place where traces of the Lenni Lenape Indians may be found buried beneath the shrubs and the sandy soil. A place where the toughest sand was extracted for the building of the Panama Canal. It’s filled with rare migrating birds, cedar trees, and beach plums in the fall. It’s a contemplative hike full of history. Even the locals who walk this path at least once a week describe it as “magical”. Join us as we search for everything from arrowheads to hawks. It’s been described as “Walden Pond with grit,” so be sure to dress accordingly.
Beach Plum Farm Tour (Thursdays at 1:00 pm)
Join us on a guided tour of Beach Plum Farm. You’ll travel along the farm’s 62 acres, in and out of the secluded Wetland Forest and into the old wide open spaces of the back fields. This is where many of the vegetables are grown, pigs are raised, and honey is harvested. Our expert tour guide will tell you all about the farm operations, from gathering eggs, to raising the animals, to delivering food to our restaurants in town each and every day. Take part in an aspect of farm life before the tour is through, and stop by the Farm Market to see the fruit of Beach Plum Farm’s labor.
* For the safety of our guests and guides, there may be an occasion to cancel an excursion due to inclement weather. If this does happen, the excursion will not be rescheduled.
** Kids eat free: For every adult entree or sandwich purchased off of the regular Rusty Nail menu, one child under the age of 12 may eat free off of the children’s menu. Limit two children.Book The Beach Shack
